Artist Statement

This recent body of work has moved between drawing and sculpture. The work has developed in tandem, and the dialogue that develops between the work on paper and the three-dimensional pieces plays an important role in my art making process.

Line and gesture and natural forms are the inspiration for this work. Organic life, whether vines in the woods, seaweed washed on the shoreline, the landscape of our own bodies, on and beneath the surface, have always inspired my work.

Wire structures are constructed and wrapped with waxed cord. Each sculpture, when suspended and lit creates a shadow drawing, and the works on paper are inspired by the ever-changing shadows cast from these sculptures. I am influenced by the meditative process involved with making this work---mark making, the passage of time and the repetition and connectedness of each line and wind.
